Get involved in 2019
Happy new year! We are looking forward to another year of dialogue in 2019.
Do you have a resolution to get more involved in your community? Here are a few ways to contribute:

Get informed and share
Learn about what's happening in your community and discuss with your family, friends, and neighbours.
Getting informed is the first step. The City has a new Our City Our Stories page (winnipeg.ca/ourstories) to let you know what's happening in Winnipeg.

If you are engaged in city issues, encourage others to do the same! By discussing the issues that you care about, others may want to get involved too. You could forward thepublic engagement newsletter sign up to someone right now.

Appear as a delegation
Did you know that anyone can appear as a delegation? This is the formal part of the decision making process where a member of the public can speak to decision makers directly and state their support or opposition for a matter on the meeting's agenda. More information here: winnipeg.ca/delegation

Join a board or commission
There are over 50 boards and commissions, ranging from housing to parks. Every September, the City Clerk's Department initiates an annual selection process to fill citizen member positions to Boards and Commissions. The Board of Adjustment and Human Rights Committee of Council are accepting applications right now. Learn more here: https://winnipeg.ca/clerks/ boards/citizenappointments/ default.stm

Engagement Updates
Bridgwater Pathway Lighting
The City reached out to households in the Bridgwater neighbourhood by mail in late October 2018 to gather input on support and opposition of pedestrian lighting along several public pathways in the Bridgwater neighbourhood (called 'visitable pathways') through a survey.

The public engagement summary from the Bridgwater neighbourhood pathway lighting survey is now available. The results will be considered by the Standing Policy Committee on Property and Development, Heritage and Downtown Development (SPC-PD) on January 7, 2019.

For more information, visit winnipeg.ca/bridgwaterlighting .

North District Police Station
In response to stakeholder and public engagement activities that showed a significant number of residents and organized community groups were not in support of a North District Police Station being built at the Old Exhibition Grounds, the City is seeking proposals for an alternative site for the station. A Request for Proposals (RFP) has been issued to seek private land options for the station.

Shortlisted proposals will be evaluated to determine a recommended site. The recommended preferred development site will require Council review. As part of the decision-making process, there will be opportunities for members of the public toappear as a delegation before committees and Council. Notification of these opportunities will be provided to those on the project email list with as much notice as possible

For more information, visit winnipeg.ca/ northdistrictstation.

Cottonwood Tree July 21 2019

I'm sorry to report that Little Mountain will lose a piece of our history. The large Cottonwood tree will be taken down.

Thank you for contacting Winnipeg 311 regarding the green dot on the cottonwood tree that was struck by lightning at Little Mountain Park.

Unfortunately, green on the tree indicates trees other than DED/EAB infected trees that are slated for removal. The tree must have taken too much damage and needs to be removed for safety.

If you require further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact 311. Our customer service representatives are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Sincerely,

Hi all I received this from a concerned person. I have sent the information off  to the parks people and waiting for their response. Be aware of it.

I’m not sure who to report this to but I was at Little Mountain Dog
Park today with my dog and there were two dead squirrels and a dead
rabbit (I think) all in a small area south of the fenced in shed by
the main building at the Farmer Road parking lot.

The animals looked newly dead and didn’t look harmed which makes me
wonder if they have been poisoned.
